Guntur Mountain in Tarogong Kaler Sub-District, Garut Regency


When people talk about Garut Regency, they may recall delicious snacks “Dodol” and various beautiful beaches scattered in different areas of such region. In terms of size, Guntur Mountain has the height of 2249 meters above the sea level. In the past, it was considered a significant volcano due to its activity during the 1800s. Fortunately, it became calmer as the time went by. Instead of being a dangerous mountain, it has turned into a nice vacation destination especially for those who love trekking and photography. Another impressive fact is that Guntur resides near to other famous mountains including Parupuyan, Masigit, and Cikuray! Aside from exploration, trekking is also popular among those who visit the site. Trekkers’ main destination is none other than the peak of the mountain, which is a wide caldera featuring dry plants and sandy landscape. The panorama looks breathtaking up there, for sure.

For first-timers, it is recommended to get thorough information regarding the mountain before conducting trekking. At least, they should acquire information regarding the route and available posts first. From the basecamp (located in the parking area of Citiis Sukawangi, trekkers can directly get to the first post which takes about 1 hour. Have no worries. The route is nice on this first journey. From the first post, they may pass through a forest with several waterfalls in it. One thing, the route becomes steeper on this journey.

Once reaching the second post (which is about 1 hour), trekkers may see a dry landscape with only several plants on it. Some guards are also seen there, who will log visitors’ information. What is next? The last destination is the camping ground where trekkers can build the tent and spend the night on such majestic mountain! Make sure to prepare everything beforehand, though.

How to Get There
In order to get to Guntur Mountain, tourists should visit Garut Regency first. If they come from Bandung City, they may spend about 1 hour and 48 minutes to get there (as the distance is 49.8 km). Have no worries. It becomes faster if they take Raya Sapan Street. Once arriving at Tarogong Kaler Sub-District, their last destination is Sukawangi Village where they can prepare for trekking to reach the peak of the mountain.
